Multiplying Mixed Numbers – By Using Calculator Techniques

Math calculations with mixed numbers (mixed fractions) involving the manipulation of fractions, whole numbers, integers and mixed numbers, mixed fractions and improper fractions. The Mixed Numbers Calculator can be used to add, subtract, multiply, and divide mixed numbers and fractions.

Mixed Fraction – Mixed number Calculator:

You can use this online calculator to perform simple operations on whole numbers, integers, mixed numbers, fractions and improper fractions such as adding, subtracting, dividing or multiplying. If a mixed number exists, the answer is given as a reduced fraction and as a mixed number, if it exists.

Please enter mixed numbers, whole numbers or fractions in the following formats:

1. In the case of mixed numbers, enter 1 1/2 as that is one and a half seconds, or 25 3/32 as that is twenty-five and three thirty seconds. You should keep exactly one space between the whole number and the fraction, and use the forward slash to input the fraction. For each whole number, numerator, or denominator, you are permitted to enter up to three digits in length (123 456/789 for example).
2. For whole numbers: Up to three digits in length.
3. The fraction should be entered as 3/4, which is three fourths, or as 3/100, which is three hundredths. There is a maximum length of three digits for each of the numerators and denominators (for example, 456/789).

• The mixed numbers should be converted to improper fractions
• According to the algebraic formula for addition of fractions:
• The following equation is equivalent to a/b + c/d = (ad + bc)/bd
• Please reduce fractions and simplify as much as possible

Example:

Add 1 2/6 and 2 ¼

1 2/6 + 2 1/4 = 8/6 + 9/4 = (8*4 + 9*6) / 6*4 = 86 / 24

So, we get 86/24 and simplify to 3 7/12.

Multiplying Mixed Numbers – By Multiplying Fraction Formula:

• You will need to convert the mixed numbers to improper fractions
• The following formula should be used for multiplying fractions: a/b x c/d = ac / bd
• Reduce the fractions and simplify if possible

Multiplying Fraction Formula:

Example:

Multiply 1 2/6 by 2 1/4

1 2/6 * 2 1/4 = 8/6 * 9/4 = 8*9 / 6*4 = 72 / 24

Reduce the fraction to get 3/1 and simplify to 3

Subtracting Mixed Numbers – By Subtracting Fraction Formula:

• The mixed numbers should be converted to improper fractions
• Subtract fractions using the algebraic formula: a/b – c/d = (ad – bc) / bd
• Reducing and simplifying fractions if possible

Subtracting Formula Fraction:

Example:

Subtract 2 1/4 from 1 2/6

1 2/6 – 2 1/4 = 8/6 – 9/4 = (8*4 – 9*6) / 6*4 = -22 / 24

Reduce the fraction to get -11/12.

Dividing Mixed Numbers – By Dividing Mixed Fraction Formula:

• Calculate the improper fractions by converting the mixed numbers
• For fraction division, you can use the algebraic formula: a/b ÷ c/d = ad / bc
• The easiest way to simplify fractions is to reduce them

Dividing Fraction Formula:

Example:

divide 1 2/6 by 2 1/4

1 2/6 ÷ 2 1/4 = 8/6 ÷ 9/4 = 8*4 / 9*6 = 32 / 54

Reduce the fraction to get 16/27
